Athlete’s Village Kitchen & Dining at Pan American Games
The Toronto Pan American/Parapan American Games 2015 was the largest multi-sport event ever held in Canada. 7,500 athletes and officials were housed in a single village – and with a single main dining facility. PKL’s contract direct with TO2015 was for the entire design and installation of the foodservice equipment of the athletes’ main dining facility – a huge 5,250 m2 temporary structure, brought all the way from Lima, Peru.
PKL’s scope was the distribution of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and refrigeration systems necessary to install the kitchen. Whilst the project proved straightforward, the installation itself was delayed by six weeks due to the worst winter in living memory. PKL and other contractors could not access site until all snow had been removed and temperatures had risen above the -25 degrees C recorded. Despite the six week delay, the facility was delivered to the original target date.
